Justin reached out to me with a plan. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Sian, but he didn’t want anything over the top or staged. He just wanted it to feel like them. Thoughtful, intentional, and honestly just a really good day that happened to end with a proposal.
Sian had no idea.

To her, it was just a photoshoot. Something fun. Something long overdue since they’d never taken professional photos together before. Meanwhile, Justin had been quietly working with her best friend, who found me on TikTok and sent my info his way. From there, everything came together pretty effortlessly.
We chose the Raleigh Rose Garden, and it was the perfect backdrop. The space already feels romantic without trying too hard. Open paths, greenery everywhere, and enough quiet moments to make it feel like your own little world.
The session started exactly how it should. Walking, talking, laughing, easing into things. Nothing stiff. Nothing overly posed. Justin was calm in that way people get when they know something big is coming. Sian was fully present, glowing, completely unaware that this shoot was anything more than just cute photos.

As we moved through the garden, the vibe kept getting better. The way they naturally leaned into each other, the little smiles, the inside jokes. It honestly started feeling like a scene out of a movie. And then came the picnic.
A blanket on the grass, wine being poured, flowers laid out just right. It felt relaxed and intimate, like a pause in the day where everything slowed down for a second. Watching them sit together, laugh, and enjoy the moment, you’d never guess what was about to happen next.

That’s the part I love most about surprise proposals. Not because they’re nerve wracking, but because the energy is unmatched. There’s so much intention in the air. I love being around that kind of love, the kind that’s thought through and chosen.
After the picnic, we made our way toward the fountain. I gave Sian a simple direction, nothing out of the ordinary. While she was facing away, Justin dropped to one knee.
When she turned around, everything shifted.

At that exact moment, her best friend stepped out, playing A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. The song filled the space in the softest way and grounded the moment instantly. Sian’s reaction said everything. Shock, joy, laughter, tears, all at once.
Her best friend was right there, flowers in hand, phone ready, absolutely losing it. The energy changed immediately. Hugs, happy tears, disbelief, pure excitement. What started as a quiet proposal turned into a full-on celebration in seconds.

This is exactly why Raleigh Rose Garden engagement photos work so well. Not just because the location is beautiful, but because it gives moments like this room to unfold naturally.
Justin planned something incredibly thoughtful. Sian got a memory she’ll carry forever. And I got to be right there, capturing it as it happened.
Those are always my favorite sessions.
