I’m not even gonna lie, Kristen’s session was one of those shoots where I knew from the jump it was about to be a good time. While we were planning her UNC doctoral graduation photos, she was literally sending me videos of her trying on outfits asking for my opinion. And I remember thinking, oh yeah… she’s funny. Like naturally funny.
Just super bubbly and very much herself.
So when I tell you it took me out a little bit seeing these final images… because why does she look like a full editorial diva? That’s my favorite part though. Because the personality is real, but so is the confidence. And that’s exactly what I want my clients to walk away with.

We started her UNC doctoral graduation photos at the Bell Tower to get that classic Carolina feel. You really can’t go wrong there. It’s simple, it’s clean, and it just sets the tone for the whole session.

After that we headed over to the Old Well and this is where things really started to click. She put on her doctoral regalia and the whole vibe shifted. The columns, the symmetry, everything about that location just makes the photos feel timeless without trying too hard.

Then we switched into her second outfit and went to Wilson Library and listen… this part right here? Yeah. This was it.
The look was giving polished, confident, slightly editorial, like she could step into a campaign and not miss a beat. And the crazy part is we were still laughing the entire time. Nothing about the shoot felt stiff or forced, which is exactly how I like it.

If you’re planning your own UNC doctoral graduation photos, just know it does not have to feel awkward or overly posed. You don’t need to show up knowing what to do. That’s my job. You can come as you are, have a good time, and still leave with photos that feel elevated, confident, and like you. Let’s chat about your session!
Kristen showed up as herself, had fun with it, and still gave exactly what needed to be given.
And yeah… she ate this shoot up.
