Some opportunities just hit different. This was one of them.
I recently had the honor of photographing Alan and Ben Buie King for their feature in The Wall Street Journal, and today I’m sharing a few of my favorite images from that portrait session—as well as the story behind how it all came together.
Here’s a few of my favorite photos from the shoot!

about the article
The article, titled “A Penthouse Fit for Their Art Collection,” is centered on the couple’s beautifully curated home. And when I say art-filled, I mean truly art-filled—from pieces by Basquiat to other striking works that deserve to be in a museum. But here’s the thing: Allen and Ben didn’t want their home to feel like a museum. They wanted it to feel warm. Purposeful. Designed around their collection, not just a container for it.
That intention is honestly felt in every corner of their space—and it was something I really wanted to honor in their portraits.
how it all unfolded
The opportunity came through Alan King, the CEO of Workplace Options, where I previously photographed their account managers and team. During that project, I had the chance to photograph Alan as well—though he made it clear he’s not usually a fan of being in front of the camera. Still, after seeing his photos, he shared how much he loved them. That meant so much to me.
Fast forward: Alan and Ben were being featured in The Wall Street Journal and needed portraits to accompany the article. Allen reached out and asked if I’d be willing to come into their home and capture the two of them in their space.
Of course, I said yes.
What I love most about this session is that it didn’t feel forced or over-produced. It was calm, intentional, full of quiet moments and great conversation. My goal was to simply capture them being themselves—at home, surrounded by the things they love. And I think that energy translated in the final portraits.
Thank you so much Alan and Ben for trusting me with this moment, I am so very grateful.
