My Family Portraits 2017

It's such a shame that I've been a professional photographer for 6 years now and I've never taken photos of my family. Well, I've never taken pictures of us together. I mean, we haven't even had family photos in YEARS and by years I mean I was in high school the last time we took family photos... I graduated 10 years ago. The last time we had photos taken before that, was.... never! Needless to say, it was time.

When it comes to my family, there's only two words that come to mind: hot mess. Somebody's late, she's hangry, she's making silly inappropriate jokes, his shirt has BBQ sauce all over the front, he's asking way too many questions, someone's crying, he's being... himself, he's still trying to figure out what to wear. We're a mess... but it's one mess that I wouldn't trade for the world.

A few weeks back, I texted everyone because I wanted to do an updated family photo of us. Surprisingly, everyone agreed. We got together on Sunday for church here in Greenville, NC at Koinonia Community Church. After service we headed Uptown Greenville for our shoot. We had so much fun.

My nephew, Chase, is a typical 11 year old. If he isn't glued to a book, his iPad, or his XBOX then he's somewhere finding ways to mess with his 8 year old sister, Brooke.

My oldest niece, Kaylah, is always on her phone! Always. #SnapchatIsLife. My bestie, Keisha, came along to take our entire family photo. Thank you so much Keisha!!

My sisters and their little ones. Tonia, Brooke, and Chase (Top Left). Tequilla and her daughter, Kaylah (Top Right). Tamika and her daughter, Kimora (Bottom).

Meanwhile, I'm here counting the number of kids I want to have. #ItsAboutThatTime

After dealing with these three, I constantly question how ready I am to have kids. They're a handful.

Kimora is the cutest little girl in the world to me, look at that smile! She's actually responsible for the picture to the right AND all of the photos on my fashion blog! Then there's me and siblings and well, we slay!

In our moments of chaos, we find humor and that chaos transforms into even more reasons to love each other. I'm so blessed to have such a strong foundation. Mama is our rock, phenomenal doesn't even scrape the surface to describe the love and support she's shown us. She raised us to value family. She taught us that "family comes first" and that through our disagreements to love each other, to respect each other, and to always make things right at the end of the day. I love them so much, they literally complete me.

My heart fills with so much joy thinking about how much fun we had during this shoot and I'm overflowing with thankfulness to use my gift as a gift to those that I love the most. I hope to make this a tradition in our family.
