There are some people who earn a degree.
And then there are people who fight for it.
Kadijah’s graduation session honestly left me sitting with that thought long after the shoot was over because this wasn’t just about celebrating a master’s degree. This was about celebrating resilience. Discipline. Sacrifice. Faith. Growth. Survival.
When Kadijah reached out to plan her graduation session for completing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus in Addictions at NCCU, I already knew this shoot mattered. But hearing more about her journey made it hit differently.
Because life did not pause while she pursued this degree. Not even close.
While navigating graduate school, Kadijah also stepped into entirely new chapters of life all at once. She got married. She became a mother. She carried twins while completing school. She gave birth. She cared for newborns. She balanced sleepless nights, responsibilities, coursework, a 600-hour internship, and still somehow continued showing up for herself and her goals every single day.
And if we’re being real, there are so many moments in life where it would’ve been understandable to slow down, put your dreams on hold, or tell yourself, “Maybe later.”
But she didn’t.
That’s what made these NCCU master’s grad photos feel so powerful to me. Not just because she graduated, but because of everything it took for her to get there.
I think that’s also why the photos with her twins feel so emotional. They tell the full story behind the accomplishment. Not just the degree itself, but the reality of who she became while earning it. The long nights. The balancing act. The moments where she probably had to keep pushing forward even when she was exhausted.
What made this session even more special for me is that I actually photographed Kadijah’s maternity session before the twins were born, so seeing her back in the studio celebrating this chapter while holding her babies felt really full circle.
And honestly, I know so many people will see themselves in her story.
Especially women. Especially mothers. Especially people who feel like life has become so demanding that their own dreams have quietly been pushed to the side.
Kadijah’s story is such a beautiful reminder that your goals are still allowed to matter too.
Even while life is changing.
Even while you’re caring for other people.
Even while you’re tired.
Sometimes resilience is loud, but sometimes it looks like continuing to show up for yourself one day at a time. And I think this session captured that beautifully.
If you’re graduating soon and want photos that feel personal, editorial, and actually reflective of your story, I’d love to help you create something meaningful. Whether you’re celebrating a bachelor’s degree, master’s program, doctorate, or simply a season you fought hard to get through, you deserve photos that feel just as powerful as the moment itself.
